Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Religious and Cultural Center (in Chino Hills, CA) is currently under construction and being built by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha.
The BAPS Sanstha is installing a a 60kW grid-tied solar power system manufactured by GoGreenSolar. The Sanstha is estimating that the 60KW system will fulfill the new cultural center’s energy needs and have extra power that will be sent to the local grid to bring in revenue for the Sanstha. This is a very good step in the right direction in embracing clean and environment friendly energy. Hindu Temples are installing eco friendly solar energy systems to meet their power consumption needs and could be a vital medium to educate the masses about global warming and its dangers. In a previous post, i had talked about the Tirumala Tirupathi Temple having the world’s largest solar cooking system.
Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Religious and Cultural Center is also accpeting donations for the installation of the solar power system here. Donations can be made with paypal.
Here are some more images of the Cultural Center from their website

Time.com has an interesting article talking about how temples in India are going green and bringing in more revenue by going green. One of Hinduism’s holiest shrine, The Tirupathi Tirumala Temple, already has the world’s biggest solar energy powered steam cooking system and has been selling its carbon credits to a swiss company.
It is very interesting to see how religious institutions can make a big difference in environmental practices. It is a very effective way to educate people about the impact that our ever increasing green house gas emissions are having on our climate.

An inured monkey that made it into a farmhouse bleeding all over is now a major attraction in Palakkad, Kerala. The monkey was named ‘Mani’ by the farmhouse employees and brought back to good health. Mani now repays them by shepherding a lot of 100 goats and protects the goats by being on the look out for predators like wolves and jackals.
Workers at the Greenland Estate at Palakapandy vouch that Mani’s sharp eyes and ears can detect wolves or jackals that could spring from bushes or rocky clefts to feast on the kids.
If he senses some danger, the monkey will make a whistle-like sound to put the herd on high alert and to avoid the risk of walking into a trap.
When goats fail to reach tender leaves on trees Mani would jump on the branches and lower them by his weight so that the goats can eat to their heart’s content.
When the herd takes a breather under the cool shadow of trees, he comforts them by picking lice or fleas hiding in the their furry coats.
According to Martin, an estate employee, Mani was found by estate workers when the monkey was a toddler. His palm was injured and bleeding and they had looked after him for a few days, applying medicines on the bruised palm.
